A fair plumbing quote should make the labour, parts and scope understandable. For fault-finding jobs, it should also be clear whether the first visit is diagnostic only and how additional work will be authorised.

Signs the total may be hard to compare
- Labour and parts are impossible to distinguish.
- The quote does not identify the fixture, pipework or fault being addressed.
- Call-out, parking or emergency charges are not explained.
- There is no explanation of what happens if the first repair does not solve the fault.
